My kids can ride in a car all day long. Except for two things.
Addie gets carsick. Through many processes of trial and error (gross, disgusting, vomit-laced errors) I have found that the best remedy includes no winding roads, tinted windows, a blanket, a pillow, shoes off, a cool temperature (65 seems to work), water to drink, and a movie. That keeps the sun off of her, her body cool, maintains hydration, and distracts her from the moving vehicle. And when that happens, Addie can ride in a car all day.
Reggie thinks everything works like a yo-yo. I give him a blanket, a drink, a pacifier, a toy and the same movie as Addie. Within minutes however, he is cold, thirsty, bored and noisy. His blanket is between him and Addie. His pacifier has rolled under my seat, his drink is wedged up against his seat and the door, he is probably now sitting on his toy, and all of these things together have pulled his attention from the movie and put him into a state of distraught. Until I Plastic-Man myself, gather up all his belongings and get them back to him just so he can do it again. Then Reggie can ride in a car all day.
And its good that they can ride in a car all day. Because that's about how long it takes us to make it here.
And its worth it.
